About Ellsworth Housing Authority

The Ellsworth and MDI Housing Authorities provide housing assistance and related services to individuals and families who face income or other life challenges. We provide the opportunity for them to become self-sufficient and economically independent. We believe everyone deserves a good home.

The first three housing authorities to be established on Mount Desert Island were Southwest Harbor, Bar Harbor and Mount Desert, all on May 3, 1973. The Town of Tremont Housing Authority was established next on October 13, 1974 and the City of Ellsworth Housing Authority on September 13, 1983.


Mission Statement

The mission of the Mount Desert Island and Ellsworth Housing Authorities is to provide decent, safe, and sanitary housing for low-income citizens of the greater Mount Desert Island and Ellsworth areas.
